Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book an appointment directly. We keep your GP (huisarts) informed, unless you prefer us not to.
Without a referral, your physiotherapist first carries out a short screening. Occasionally this shows that it is better to see your GP first.
I have already seen a doctor. Do I need a referral letter?
Only if your condition is on the Dutch list of chronic conditions (Lijst Langdurige Fysiotherapie), such as rehabilitation after surgery, Parkinson's disease or a stroke. Otherwise your doctor's advice is enough.
I'm not insured in the Netherlands. Can I still come?
Yes. You pay the rates listed below and can claim the costs from your own insurer if your policy covers physiotherapy. Please check with your insurer beforehand.
What if I can't make my appointment?
Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged at € 39.35.
Cancel by phone (+31 183 620 275), voicemail (also at weekends) or email: info@fysiodecolvenier.nl.
Do I pay the deductible (eigen risico)?
Usually not. In most cases physiotherapy is covered by supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering), to which the deductible does not apply.
Only for conditions on the chronic list does basic insurance pay from the 21st treatment onwards — the deductible then applies.
What does basic insurance (basisverzekering) cover?
Children under 18: up to 18 treatments, no deductible.
Hip or knee osteoarthritis: up to 12 treatments per 12 months (deductible applies).
Conditions on the chronic list (e.g. after surgery or a stroke): the first 20 treatments are paid by you or your supplementary insurance; after that, basic insurance (deductible applies).
Intermittent claudication: supervised walking therapy on a specialist's referral, up to 37 treatments once (deductible applies).
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Your insurance details, valid ID and your referral letter if you have one. For exercise sessions: sportswear and clean indoor trainers. You may bring a towel.
Insurance cover
Fysiotherapie De Colvenier has contracts with all Dutch health insurers.
For adults, physiotherapy is (apart from a few conditions) covered by supplementary insurance. Please check your policy for the number of treatments or amount covered.
Physiotherapy, sports, paediatric and pelvic physiotherapy, dry needling and manual therapy all count as “physiotherapy”. All treatments in a calendar year add up — including those at other practices — so please keep track of how many you have had.

House rules
Your insurance
Please give us your current insurance details and check how many treatments your policy covers. The practice is not responsible for your reimbursement. Group classes are usually at your own expense. All our therapists are registered in the Dutch Central Quality Register for Physiotherapy.
How treatment works
Your first appointment is an intake, including a screening if you come without a referral. If it is better to see your GP first, we send our findings to your GP (with your consent). You plan follow-up appointments together with your physiotherapist.
Exercising in the gym
Please wear sportswear and clean indoor trainers. Changing rooms with lockers and showers are available. Training always takes place under supervision of a physiotherapist.
Liability
The practice is not liable for injury if the physiotherapist's instructions were not followed, nor for loss or theft of belongings. If you have a do-not-resuscitate declaration, please tell your physiotherapist.
Access
The main entrance of Gezondheidscentrum De Colvenier is at the front (sliding doors). Our practice is on the first floor, reachable by stairs and lift.
Emergencies
Please follow instructions from staff or emergency services. Several of our physiotherapists are trained first responders (BHV) and the health centre has an AED.
Complaints
Not satisfied with something? Please let us know — it helps you, other patients and the quality of our care.
1. Talk to us
First discuss it with your physiotherapist or our complaints officer.
2. File a complaint
If that does not resolve it, you can use the complaints procedure of the Royal Dutch Society for Physical Therapy (KNGF), with which we are affiliated. For serious complaints you can contact the KNGF Supervisory Committee or the Regional Disciplinary Tribunal.
More information (in Dutch): defysiotherapeut.com. Our complaints procedure is available at reception.
